Gladiators

Breaking news! Rumor has it that Rome will be making a big Colosseum for the gladiators to fight in. There is nothing for sure about this, but I think it’s something to come in the future around 70-80 AD. As well, there is a new gladiator in town that doesn’t even want freedom! He just wants blood and fame. He goes by the name Sandro, fighting those who dare to fight him. He’s been the big talk of maybe being the best gladiator ever lived! As everyone knows gladiator fights are on of the most popular form of entertainment in Roman History! Sandro was known as the underdog in his first fight vs a well trained victor named Canis in other words his brother. Sandro was always known as 2nd place in his family, which built a huge hate for his brother, Canis who was 1st in the family. A little background of the two gladiators, Sandro and Canis’ family were Aristocrats, but went bankrupt. Gladiators come from a background of either being a slave, criminal, or a bankrupt aristocrat trying to gain their wealth back. All Sandro wanted to do is earn his family’s wealth back and defeat his brother. Sandro defeating Canis made a name for himself after all of his time going to Gladiator School. You’re probably all like what’s Gladiator School? Well, I have an answer to your question, Gladiator School is a place where warriors can train to become the best they can be. In fighting, knowledge of weapons, and strategy! At the beginning of the fight, the two brothers both yelled, “Ave imperator, morituri te salutant!” In other words it means, ‘Hail Emperor, we who are about to die salute you!’ They did this to show honor to their Emperor. With outstanding training, one of the gladiators, Canis was at his last breathe. The crowd could either shout, ‘Mitte’ (let him go) or ‘pollice verso/lugula’ (execute him). Of course with Sandro’s anger, he would have killed Canis anyway, but the crowd helped Sandro out and shouted, “Pollice verso!” With that Sandro made history winning the biggest underdog victory, as well breaking Canis’ 20 gladiator win streak.

Roman Clothing

Top news! A Roman male cross dresses to be a Roman women! This is crazy, people of Rome! This is the first encounter of this incident we have ever had in Roman History! Clothing is a work of art, showing you gender, status, social class, and more. The man that crossed dressed, ‘it’s’ real name is Caius, but now goes by the name Clara. Clara or Caius, showed up to a popular festival last night in women clothing on purpose. Clara/Caius was trying to make a statement that a man or a women can be whatever they would like to be. If you have no idea what men/women wear, let me give you a description. Men wear short sleeved or sleeveless shirts, about a knee length tunic. This is something that Caius should wear, but ‘it’ refuses to do so. What ‘it’ now wears throughout everyday life is this. Women wear sleeved tunics about shin length or the whole leg length. Zacherus, a wealthy man noticed Caius wearing women’s clothing at the festival. At festivals and special occasions, males wore woolen togas draped over the tunic, which was what Zacherus wore. When he saw Caius wearing female festival clothes,a woolen mantle known as palla over a stola, long sleeves that hung to mid step, he freaked out and made a huge deal! That’s because it is a huge deal! With that being said, that night they took Caius/Clara and crucified ‘it.’ That was to show a statement that we were made the way we were for a reason, we shall not question it because we were given gifts and talents. To express ourselves of our gender through colors and how they make certain colors of clothing is through dye. This topic has huge talk, but I’m sure it won’t cause too much chaos.
